The Sierra Club's members are 700,000 of your friends and neighbors. Inspired by nature, we work together to protect our communities and the planet. The Club is America's oldest, largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization.

Our Mission Statement

1. Explore, enjoy and protect the wild places of the earth.
2. Practice and promote the responsible use of the earth's ecosystems and resources.
3. Educate and enlist humanity to protect and restore the quality of the natural and human environment.
4. Use all lawful means to carry out these objectives.

A Message from the Sierra Club DC Chapter Chair

As you may already know, the Sierra Club, as the nation’s largest grassroots environmental organization, enjoys the support of some 700,000 people nationwide who enjoy the outdoors and want to preserve and protect our natural resources for future generations. The Sierra Club, through its local chapters, offers its members much more: If you live or work in the metropolitan Washington area you will have many opportunities to participate in local outings and chapter activities, as well volunteer to support local environmental issues.

We have been very busy in the District. Key issues include: increasing recycling in DC, transportation and air quality issues, water quality issues, land use and development issues in DC, and Environmental Justice.

As a member of the Washington, D.C. Chapter, you will not only receive Sierra, the National Club’s magazine, you will also receive our Chapter newsletter, the Capital Sierran, which will give you a lot of information on what is going on: stories about our current campaigns, our calendar with both outings and chapter events, and telephone numbers of key chapter leaders whom you can call to find out more.

Take a few moments to look through our website. If you have any questions or comments, you can e-mail or call us. We deeply appreciate your support and participation. The Sierra Club works because people like you get involved!

Sincerely,
Mark Wenzler,Chair
